Virtual Dementia Experience

(VDE)

Caring for a loved one with dementia requires empathy, patience and special care. But how can you be empathetic when you have never experienced what it is like to walk in their shoes?

Our virtual dementia experience is your window into their world. This hands-on experience gives caregivers/family members and medical professionals, an opportunity to walk in the shoes of someone who lives with dementia and discover first-hand what life is like for persons with dementia.

This is achieved by temporary robing a participant of their primary senses to recreate the fear and frustrations dementia creates. Participants wear gloves, special glasses and headphones to distort their surroundings while they attempt to complete a list of activitiesof daily living.

This experience will show you that a person with dementia is not deliberately being challenging or aggressive, but are simply trying to make sense of their world and to function in surroundings that are progressively complicated, confusing, and scary for them.
